This week in Ocean County...

Hey neighbors! The Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day are behind us, which means we’re in the slowest time of year. Holidays behind. Short days. Everything is cold.

The good news? There’s still a TON of good stuff to do around Ocean County at this time of year! Sure, most of it is inside, but there are plenty of ways to get off the couch and go out for some fun.

Let’s see what’s going on around the county this weekend…

Did you know…

In the 1930s, massive German zeppelins regularly landed in Lakehurst at what’s now Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

The most famous? The LZ 129 Hindenburg. (Yes, that Hindenburg. Oh, the humanity!)

On May 6, 1937, locals gathered — as they often did — to watch it dock. Instead, it burst into flames in just 34 seconds, marking one of the most dramatic moments in aviation history… right here in our backyard.

Yes, people used to picnic to watch airships land in Ocean County. Those were simpler days…

What’s in store for that unpredictable Ocean County weather…

Looks like Ocean County is going to do that classic late-winter shuffle this weekend. We’ve got a damp Friday on tap (expect rain), followed by a “maybe we can still make plans” Saturday (mostly cloudy with lingering showers at the moment) and a “keep an eye on it” Sunday (looks cold with rain and… more snow).

My take: plan a cozy indoor option for Friday night, keep Saturday flexible for anything outdoors, and treat Sunday plans like a “check the forecast before you leave the house” situation.

Sunrise/sunset

  • Thu, Feb 13: Sunrise 6:53 am, sunset 5:31 pm

  • Wed, Feb 18: Sunrise 6:44 am, sunset 5:39 pm

Ocean temp

It isn’t much, but expect the water temp to stick around 44°F offshore near the Barnegat buoy.

That’s it for this week.

That’s it for now. Next week, we’ll continue the push through February, and I’ll be right by your side to help you plan your weekend activities.

See you next week!
